Satisfied with SPEEDIO's capabilities that solved difficult problems

Takasu Tekkou Co., Ltd. (hereafter Takasu Tekkou, or, the company) is a local factory that has been in operation for more than half a century, since 1965. Today, the company is made up of a young workforce ranging in age from their 20s to 40s, and approximately 30 people are engaged in production at the three factories on the premises.

As President Takasu says, "We make a truly broad range of parts," the company is characterized by production of multiple types of parts. The company is involved in a wide range of industries, including automotive parts such as dampers and FGR flanges, motorcycle parts, construction machinery parts, and medical parts, and they produce approximately 400 different parts at any given time. Another feature of the company is that as the company has connections with many subcontractors, they can handle the entire process from material arrangement to metal processing and finishing.

Mr. Nakamura from Fujii Machinery Inc., who supports the company in terms of equipment, says, "Takasu Tekkou takes on complicated and difficult jobs that other companies would shy away from."

Space saving, high cutting capabilities, and quick response were decisive factors for installing the SPEEDIO

President Takasu leads the company as the third president of the company. He says, "It has been an adventure over the past 20 years since I joined the company." To solve production issues, the company installed two W1000Xd1 machines in January 2022. President Takasu explains the reasons he chose the SPEEDIO as follows:

"As the machine is compact, it can be placed in a smaller space. This was a big factor for us because the space available in the factory is limited. In addition, the W1000Xd1 provides high speed and sufficient internal space for its compact size. When I watched the machining demonstration at the Brother Technology Center, I realized that cutting capabilities were higher than I had expected. I thought this would help us manage our current issues. Another reason is the short delivery time and Brother's good response."
Mr. Nakamura also commented, "It was satisfactory that Brother submitted the takt time calculations so quickly."

In addition, the company installed two S700X2 machines in both March and June of the same year, totaling four machines, to replace the existing BT50 machines. The challenge they were tackling at that time was difficult-to-machine workpieces using an automatic hydraulic jig. President Takasu says, "We would have used BT50 or BT40 machines in the past, but after watching the demonstration with the W1000Xd1, I thought BT30 machines would be capable of handling these workpieces."

Cycle time greatly reduced as well as in-process defects

When we asked President Takasu about the benefits of installing our machines, his first answer was the speed. "I feel that the cycle time has been reduced by more than 20%," he answered. “Power consumption has also been greatly reduced compared to the data before installation. In our case, however, tooling costs have been reduced the most after the installation of the SPEEDIO. There is a significant difference between BT50 machines and BT30 machines. Tooling costs are about half the previous costs.

Regarding the work, he mentioned the excellent accessibility. He also mentioned that the improved clamp has enabled machining without removing and attaching the workpiece, making it easier to ensure machining quality. He says, “For example, machining that used to require four processes can now be completed in two or one process. This has resulted in a great reduction in in-process defects."
